High-lanolin balm that repels water and sweat
Overview
Overview
Squirt Barrier Balm is a lanolin-based anti-chafe balm that forms an invisible microfilm on skin, protecting against rubbing and irritation on long rides. It is not a chamois cream in the usual sense: most chamois creams are aqueous cream based and wash away as you sweat, while Barrier Balm is a fatty, high-lanolin balm that repels moisture and stays where you put it. That makes it the choice for brevets, ultra-endurance events and anyone who has finished a long ride sore.
Built for long days. Lanolin is a natural wax derived from sheep's wool. It adheres to skin effectively, does not wash off easily, and protects for the duration of an ultra-endurance event in wet or dry conditions. It also helps prevent fissures and assists in preventing skin infection. In Indian heat and monsoon humidity, where sweat strips ordinary creams within an hour, that water resistance is the entire point of the product.
Not only for cycling. Barrier Balm is neoprene friendly, so it can be applied under a wetsuit for open water swimming and triathlon without degrading the neoprene, and it suits runners and multisport athletes equally well. One characteristic worth knowing: lanolin melts between 38°C and 41°C, so a pot left in a car in summer will liquify. It remains perfectly usable in liquid form and sets back to its original consistency once it cools. In cold conditions it firms up and is harder to spread, but softens on contact with skin. Store at room temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is Barrier Balm different from a normal chamois cream?
How is Barrier Balm different from a normal chamois cream?
Barrier Balm is not aqueous cream based. It is a fatty, high-lanolin balm that repels water, so it stays on skin far longer and protects for the duration of an ultra-endurance event in wet or dry conditions. Most chamois creams wash away with sweat within an hour or two.
Do I apply it to my skin or to the chamois pad?
Do I apply it to my skin or to the chamois pad?
Apply it directly to skin, on any area likely to chafe: sit bones, inner thighs and underarms. Applying it to the pad wastes product and gives less reliable coverage, because the balm works by forming a protective microfilm on the skin itself.
My Barrier Balm melted in a hot car. Can I still use it?
My Barrier Balm melted in a hot car. Can I still use it?
Yes. Lanolin melts between 38°C and 41°C, which a parked car reaches easily in Indian summer. It can still be applied to skin in liquid form, and once it cools it sets back to its original consistency unchanged. Store it at room temperature.
It is too solid to apply in cold weather. What can I do?
It is too solid to apply in cold weather. What can I do?
That is a characteristic of pure lanolin rather than a fault. Warm a small amount between your fingers first and it softens on contact with skin. This is rarely an issue in Indian conditions, but on a cold early morning ride keep the pot in an inside pocket.
Can I use Barrier Balm for swimming and triathlon?
Can I use Barrier Balm for swimming and triathlon?
Yes. Barrier Balm is neoprene friendly, so it will not degrade a wetsuit. Apply it to the neck, shoulders and underarms before putting the suit on. It also works for runners and multisport athletes, which is why many riders keep one pot for everything.
