How much should you spend

₹85,000 to ₹1,50,000 buys a well-specified alloy or entry carbon bike that will serve you for years — the Merida Scultura Rim 100 at ₹86,990 and Specialized Allez E5 Disc at ₹1,44,990 sit here.

₹2,00,000 to ₹3,50,000 is where most serious riders end up: carbon frames with Shimano 105, good wheels and geometry you will not outgrow. The Merida Reacto 4000, Cannondale Synapse Carbon 5 at ₹2,68,140 and Merida Scultura 5000 at ₹3,05,990 live in this band.

₹4,00,000 and above is race-level frames and electronic shifting — Pinarello X5, the Look 795 Blade range, Cannondale Synapse Carbon 2 and the Merida Reacto 8000.

Carbon or aluminium

Carbon is lighter and takes the sting out of rough surfaces, which counts on long rides. But a well-built alloy frame with good wheels beats a cheap carbon frame with heavy ones every time. Under ₹1,50,000, we would put the money into alloy and better wheels rather than the cheapest carbon on the shelf.

Endurance or race geometry

This matters more than frame material and is the decision people most often get wrong.

Endurance bikes sit you taller with a longer wheelbase — comfortable over four hours, stable on bad surfaces. The Cannondale Synapse, Merida Scultura Endurance and Look 765 Optimum are built this way, and it is the right choice for brevets, weekend long rides and most riders here.

Race bikes are lower and quicker to change direction. The Merida Reacto, Pinarello F series and Look 795 Blade suit crits, racing and fast group rides — but they ask more of your flexibility.

Disc or rim brakes

Disc, unless budget forces otherwise. Braking stays consistent in monsoon conditions, and the industry has moved almost entirely across — spares and wheel choice for rim brake bikes will only get thinner. Rim brake bikes are lighter and cheaper and remain perfectly good for dry-weather riding.

The brands we stock

Merida gives the most bike per rupee, with the Scultura all-rounder and Reacto aero range. Cannondale splits cleanly into Synapse for endurance and SuperSix Evo for racing. Look builds in France and is the enthusiast's choice here — the 795 Blade, 785 Huez and 765 Optimum from ₹3,38,000. Pinarello and Basso bring Italian race pedigree, Specialized covers the alloy entry point, and Colnago sits at the top with the V5RS, Y1RS, C68 and Steelnovo.

Sizing

Frame size maps roughly to height, but reach and stack matter more than the label — and sizing differs between brands, and between endurance and race models from the same brand. Check the size chart for the specific bike. At these prices it is worth booking a bike fit at our Kondapur store rather than guessing, and we keep demo bikes for test rides.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much should I spend on a road bike in India?

Around ₹85,000 to ₹1,50,000 gets a well-specified alloy or entry carbon bike that will serve you for years. ₹2,00,000 to ₹3,50,000 is the sweet spot for carbon frames with Shimano 105, which is where most serious riders end up. Above ₹5,00,000 you are paying for race-level frames and electronic shifting.

Is a carbon road bike worth it over aluminium?

Not automatically. A well-built aluminium frame with good wheels beats a cheap carbon frame with heavy ones. Carbon is lighter and absorbs road buzz better, which matters on long rides. But if your budget is under ₹1,50,000, put the money into alloy plus better wheels rather than the cheapest carbon available.

What is the difference between endurance and race geometry?

Endurance bikes have a taller front end and longer wheelbase, keeping you comfortable over distance — Cannondale Synapse, Merida Scultura Endurance, Look 765 Optimum. Race bikes are lower and sharper for crits and fast group rides — Cannondale SuperSix Evo, Merida Reacto, Pinarello F series. Most riders in India are better served by endurance geometry.

Should I buy disc brakes or rim brakes?

Disc, unless budget forces otherwise. Discs give consistent braking in monsoon conditions, which matters here, and the industry has moved almost entirely to them — spares and wheel choice for rim brake bikes will keep shrinking. Rim brake bikes are lighter and cheaper, and remain fine for dry-weather riding.

What size road bike do I need?

Frame size maps roughly to your height, but reach and stack matter more than the number on the label, and sizing differs between brands and between endurance and race models from the same brand. Check the size chart for the specific bike, and book a bike fit at our Kondapur store if you are between sizes.
