Mountain Bikes

(46 products)

Mountain bikes from ₹32,990 to ₹3,89,990, covering Merida, Polygon and Kona across hardtail and full suspension. Every bike is assembled and safety-checked in our own Hyderabad workshop before it ships. Most riders here are better served by a well-specified hardtail than a cheap full suspension bike, and we will say so.

Hardtail or full suspension

This is the decision that matters most, and the one most often got wrong.

A hardtail has front suspension only. At any given price it carries better components than a full suspension bike costing the same, because rear suspension is expensive and eats the budget. It is lighter, needs less maintenance and climbs better. For cross-country riding, fire roads and the trails most Indian riders actually have access to, it is the right answer. The Merida Big.Nine range runs from ₹79,990 to ₹4,54,990 and the Polygon Syncline covers carbon cross-country.

Full suspension earns its place on genuinely technical, rocky descents. The Polygon Siskiu D7 at ₹1,49,990 is the sensible entry point, with the Merida One-Twenty 600 at ₹2,45,990 and the Polygon Collosus range above it.

29 inch or 27.5 inch wheels

29 inch rolls over rocks and roots more easily and holds speed better, which is why it dominates cross-country. 27.5 inch accelerates quicker and turns more sharply in tight terrain, and often suits shorter riders better. The Siskiu D7 is available in both, so you can choose by preference rather than by what is in stock.

How much to spend

₹65,000 to ₹1,25,000 buys a hardtail with hydraulic disc brakes and an air-sprung fork that will genuinely handle trails: the Big.Nine 300 at ₹79,990 and Big.Nine 400 at ₹1,24,990 sit here. Below ₹40,000 you are buying something that looks like a mountain bike rather than one built to be ridden off-road, though the Polygon Premier 4 at ₹32,990 is honest value if the budget is fixed.

Sizing

Frame sizes run S to XL and map roughly to height, but reach differs between brands and matters more than the letter on the label. Check the size chart for the specific model. If you are between sizes, the smaller frame is usually easier to handle on technical ground.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I buy a hardtail or full suspension mountain bike?

Buy a hardtail unless you are riding genuinely technical trails regularly. A hardtail at a given price has better components than a full suspension bike at the same price, because the suspension eats the budget. The Merida Big.Nine range and Polygon Syncline are hardtails; the Siskiu D7 and One-Twenty are full suspension.

Is 29 inch or 27.5 inch better for mountain biking?

29 inch wheels roll over obstacles more easily and carry speed better, which suits cross-country riding and most Indian trails. 27.5 inch accelerates faster and feels more manoeuvrable in tight terrain, and suits shorter riders who find a 29er awkward. The Polygon Siskiu D7 comes in both.

How much should I spend on a mountain bike in India?

Around ₹65,000 to ₹1,25,000 buys a hardtail with hydraulic disc brakes and an air fork that will handle real trails. Below ₹40,000 you are buying a bike that looks like a mountain bike rather than one built for trail use. Full suspension starts sensibly around ₹1,50,000.

What size mountain bike frame do I need?

Mountain bike sizing runs S to XL and maps roughly to rider height, but reach matters more than the label and differs between brands. Check the size chart for the specific model, and if you are between sizes the smaller frame is usually more manageable on technical terrain.

Can I use a mountain bike for daily commuting?

Yes, though it is not the efficient choice. Knobbly tyres are slow and noisy on tarmac and suspension absorbs pedalling effort. If most of your riding is on roads with occasional rough sections, a hybrid or gravel bike will be faster and more comfortable for the same money.
