The Cyclus Tools Bottom Bracket Threading Tool is a professional workshop tool designed for restoring and cleaning existing threads inside bicycle bottom bracket shells. It is intended for mechanics servicing frames with damaged, contaminated or poorly finished threads that can interfere with bottom bracket installation. Unlike a basic hand tap, the tool uses a guided arrangement to maintain alignment between both sides of the bottom bracket shell. It is designed specifically for chasing existing threads rather than cutting an entirely new thread into an unthreaded frame.
Accurate Thread Alignment. The tool uses a coordinated tapping arrangement to maintain coaxial alignment between the opposing sides of the bottom bracket shell. This helps the mechanic restore thread engagement while reducing the possibility of the taps becoming misaligned. The guided construction is particularly useful during frame preparation and bottom bracket servicing, where accurately aligned threads are important for correct component installation.
Workshop Application. Before use, thoroughly clean the bottom bracket shell and inspect the existing threads. Both tapping sections should be introduced together to maintain alignment and avoid damaging the frame. Apply suitable cutting oil throughout the process and work carefully without forcing the taps. Regular cleaning and lubrication of the tool will help maintain its condition. Severely damaged threads should be assessed by an experienced frame technician before attempting repair.
