Cema Ceramic Balls are precision-manufactured replacement bearing balls intended for suitable bicycle bearing assemblies and other applications requiring ceramic rolling elements. Manufactured from silicon nitride ceramic, they offer an alternative to conventional steel bearing balls where corrosion resistance, low weight and material hardness are important considerations. They are particularly relevant to riders and mechanics servicing compatible bearings rather than replacing complete bearing assemblies. These are individual rolling elements, not complete bearings, so their suitability depends on the construction and requirements of the existing assembly.
Material properties: Silicon nitride ceramic offers high hardness, low thermal expansion and resistance to corrosion. These characteristics make it suitable for demanding bearing applications, including environments where moisture exposure or lubrication conditions can affect conventional materials. Cema manufactures its ceramic balls through a controlled process involving forming, high-temperature sintering, shaping and grinding. The resulting spherical surfaces are intended to meet the precision requirements of cycling and industrial bearing applications. However, the performance of a serviced bearing also depends on its races, lubrication, seals and overall condition.
Compatibility considerations: Before replacing bearing balls, confirm the original ball diameter, material requirements and bearing construction. Ceramic rolling elements should only be fitted where the bearing assembly is suitable for their use. Replacing steel balls with ceramic balls does not automatically make an existing bearing equivalent to a purpose-built ceramic bearing. Worn or damaged races may require replacement of the complete bearing rather than its individual rolling elements. Correct assembly and suitable lubrication remain essential to reliable operation.
