Bike computer or GPS watch?

If most of your training is on the bike, a dedicated bike computer earns its place: the screen is bigger, it mounts out front where you can read it, and the battery outlasts most watches. Higher-end units add touchscreen mapping, solar charging and richer training metrics. If you run and swim as well, a multisport watch makes more sense because it records everything in one place, and it still pairs with your bike sensors.

Which heart rate strap should you pair?

Wrist optical readings lag during intervals, so a chest strap is worth having if you train to zones. A standard strap that broadcasts over ANT+ and Bluetooth pairs with a bike computer and a watch at the same time, which is all most cyclists need. Premium straps add running dynamics and on-device storage, which only matters if you run seriously or want heart rate data while swimming.

Which mount fits your handlebar?

An out-front mount puts the screen in your eyeline and is the reason a bike computer reads better than a stem-mounted unit. Flat-bar and stem mounts suit MTBs and hybrids, while quarter-turn bike mounts let you run a compatible Garmin watch on the bars for a ride. Check your handlebar diameter, usually 31.8 mm on road bikes, on the product page.

Is a luxury Garmin watch worth it?

Only for reasons that are not about training data. Garmin's luxury watches buy a titanium case, sapphire crystal and a different kind of object altogether, but the sports metrics they record are broadly what a mid-range running or multisport watch already gives you. Choose one on materials and finish rather than expecting better numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I buy a Garmin bike computer or a Garmin watch?

Choose a bike computer if you train mainly on the bike. The larger screen, out-front mounting and longer battery life make it easier to use mid-ride, especially for navigation. Choose a multisport watch if you also run or swim, since it captures every session in one place and can still pair with your speed, cadence and power sensors.

Which features matter most in a Garmin bike computer?

Start with navigation and battery life, since those decide how useful the unit is on long rides. Then check sensor support for power meters, heart rate straps and smart trainers, and whether you prefer touchscreen or button control. Higher-end units add larger screens, solar charging and richer training analysis, which matter most to riders following structured plans.

Do I need a premium Garmin heart rate strap?

For cycling, a standard Garmin chest strap is enough. It broadcasts heart rate over both ANT+ and Bluetooth, so it pairs with a bike computer and a phone or watch at once, and that is all a cyclist training to zones needs. Premium straps add running dynamics and on-device storage, worth it only if you also run seriously.

Will a Garmin Edge mount fit my handlebar?

Most Garmin mounts fit the standard 31.8 mm handlebar clamp found on current road and gravel bikes, and many include shims for 25.4 mm bars. Flat-bar and stem mounts suit MTBs and hybrids. Check your actual bar diameter and whether your cockpit is an integrated one-piece design, as those sometimes need a brand-specific mount.

Do Garmin products from The Bike Affair carry India warranty?

Yes. The Bike Affair is an authorised Garmin retailer supplied through the official India distribution channel, so Garmin products carry the standard manufacturer warranty valid in India. That matters for service and firmware support, which grey imports can complicate. The warranty period and what it covers are shown on each product page.
