The Pinarello Range Explained: Which Model Should You Buy?

The Pinarello Range Explained: Which Model Should You Buy?

Short answer: Pinarello's naming is simpler than it looks. F is race geometry, X is endurance geometry, and the number is the tier. So the F1 and X1 are the entry points at ₹3,29,070 and ₹3,69,999, the numbers climb through 3, 5, 7 and 9 as the carbon and groupset improve, and Dogma sits above all of it. Decide F or X first, then decide how much to spend.

Decoding the names: F, X and the numbers

Almost everyone who walks into the store confused about Pinarello is confused about the same thing, which is what F5 means next to X5. It is worth ten seconds to explain, because once you have it the whole range falls into place.

The letter is the geometry.

  • F is the race platform. Lower front end, shorter wheelbase, quicker steering. This is the lineage that runs up to the Dogma F.
  • X is the endurance platform. Taller head tube, longer wheelbase, more tyre clearance, built to stay comfortable over several hours and rougher surfaces.

The number is the tier, running 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. It reflects the carbon grade and the build kit together, so an X5 uses better carbon and a better groupset than an X1. It does not mean the X5 is a different shape to the X1.

For Indian roads this matters more than it does in Europe. The X series takes wider tyres and absorbs surface damage that will beat you up on an F. Unless you actually race, or you ride mostly on good tarmac and want the sharper handling, the X is the more sensible choice for most riders, and we say that knowing the F looks faster in the showroom.

The X series: endurance

Model Price Groupset Sizes
X1 105 Disc ₹3,29,070 Shimano 105 mechanical 43, 46, 49, 53
X3 105 Di2 ₹5,02,999 Shimano 105 Di2 43, 46, 49, 51.5, 53
X5 105 Di2 ₹5,79,999 Shimano 105 Di2 43, 46, 49, 51.5, 53

The X1 at ₹3,29,070 is the cheapest way into a Pinarello and it is a real one, not a badge exercise. Mechanical Shimano 105, disc brakes, and the endurance geometry that makes the bike pleasant on a four hour ride. Available in Pearl White and Crystal White.

The X3 steps up to 105 Di2, which is the single upgrade most riders notice day to day. Electronic shifting does not make you faster, but it stays in adjustment through monsoon grit in a way cables do not, and that is a genuine argument in Indian conditions. Impulse Grey Matte, and it adds the 51.5 size.

The X5 at ₹5,79,999 keeps the same 105 Di2 groupset and moves to a better carbon layup, in Starry Red Shiny or Xolo Crystal White. Ten in stock across five sizes, which makes it the best supported bike in the range after the F1.

The step from X3 to X5 is frame, not parts. If your budget stops at the X3, you are not missing shifting quality.

The F series: race

Model Price Groupset Sizes
F1 105 Disc ₹3,69,999 Shimano 105 mechanical 46.5, 50, 51.5, 53, 54.5, 56
F5 105 Di2 ₹7,00,000 Shimano 105 Di2 53 only
F7 Ultegra Di2 ₹9,00,000 Shimano Ultegra Di2 53 only

The F1 is the bike to look at if you want the race position without the race budget. Mechanical 105, and crucially the widest size range of any Pinarello we stock, running from 46.5 all the way to 56. Eleven in stock in Formula Red and Comet Silver Shiny. If you are tall, this is very often the only Pinarello that will fit you.

The F5 and F7 both use Pinarello's Ultrafast carbon and both are down to a single size 53 in single colours, Impulse Grey and Razor Black respectively. They are excellent bikes. They are also, at the time of writing, one-off opportunities rather than a range you can order into, so if you are a 53 and the F5 appeals, it is worth moving quickly.

Dogma: the flagship

The Dogma F with Dura-Ace Di2 at ₹17,60,000 is the bike Ineos Grenadiers race, available in Ineos Replica and Luxter Blue, in sizes 50 and 51.5.

There is no sensible value argument to make here and we will not attempt one. The Dogma is bought because it is the Dogma. What is worth saying is that the frame genuinely is the fastest thing Pinarello makes, and that the Dura-Ace Di2 build wants a rider who will use it. If the appeal is the frame rather than the complete bike, the frameset route below is considerably more interesting.

Framesets and custom builds

Frameset Price Sizes In stock
Dogma F Disc ₹6,59,999 46.5, 50, 51.5, 53 13
Dogma X Disc ₹6,59,000 53 1
X9 CG260 Disc ₹5,92,000 46 1

The Dogma F frameset at ₹6,59,999 is the most interesting product in the whole Pinarello range, and it is the one we would push hardest. It is the same frame as the ₹17,60,000 complete bike. Buy the frameset, build it with 105 Di2 or Ultegra Di2 and wheels you choose yourself, and you have a Dogma for a great deal less than the complete bike, specified the way you actually ride. Thirteen in stock across four sizes and seven colours, including Black on Black, Sonic Green, Sonic Red, Starry Red and Edge Crystal White.

The Dogma X is the endurance version of the same idea, and the X9 is the top of the X line. Both are single units in single sizes.

If you build a Pinarello you will also need the proprietary cockpit parts. We stock the Most Talon Ultra Fast integrated handlebar, the Most Jaguar XFC aero bar, TiCR stems in alloy and carbon, TiCR headset bearing kits, the Dogma F seatpost and the Twin Force seat clamp kit. Talk to us before ordering a frameset so we can confirm the cockpit parts you will need.

Which Pinarello should you buy

If you Buy Price
Want your first Pinarello and ride long, not fast X1 105 ₹3,29,070
Want the race position, or you are tall F1 105 ₹3,69,999
Want electronic shifting that survives monsoon X3 105 Di2 ₹5,02,999
Want the best endurance bike short of a Dogma X5 105 Di2 ₹5,79,999
Want a Dogma and are willing to build it Dogma F frameset ₹6,59,999
Ride a 53 and want Ultrafast carbon now F5 or F7 ₹7,00,000
Want the Ineos bike, complete, no compromises Dogma F Dura-Ace Di2 ₹17,60,000

Prices are indicative and move with exchange rates and duty.

Sizing, and why the numbers look odd

Pinarello sizes are 43, 46, 46.5, 49, 50, 51.5, 53, 54.5 and 56, and the half sizes throw people. These are Pinarello's own size codes rather than a seat tube measurement you can compare directly against another brand. A Pinarello 53 is not the same as a 53cm frame from another manufacturer.

Two practical points. The X series runs 43 to 53, so taller riders are effectively limited to the F1, which reaches 56. And the F5, F7, Dogma X and X9 are each down to one size, so availability rather than preference may decide for you.

Use our Pinarello size chart to translate your height and inseam, and see our reference on frame sizing by height and inseam for the method. At this money, get measured properly rather than guessing. We do it free at the Kondapur store.

Frequently asked questions

Is buying a Dogma F frameset and building it actually cheaper?

Yes, substantially. The frameset is ₹6,59,999 against ₹17,60,000 for the complete Dura-Ace Di2 bike, leaving roughly ₹11,00,000 for groupset, wheels and cockpit. A very good 105 Di2 or Ultegra Di2 build with quality carbon wheels comes in well under that. You also choose your own wheels, which is where most riders would rather spend the money.

Can I fit a power meter to a Pinarello?

Yes, and the simplest route is a power meter crankset or spider matched to your groupset, since nothing about the frame restricts it. Shimano 105 Di2 and Ultegra Di2 both have power meter chainset options. Pedal-based meters work on any of these bikes and move between bikes easily, which suits anyone who also rides a trainer or a second bike.

What tyre width fits a Pinarello X compared with an F?

The X series takes noticeably wider rubber than the F, which is the practical difference between the two platforms on Indian roads. Endurance frames are designed around larger clearances for comfort and rough surfaces, while race frames prioritise a tight aerodynamic package. Confirm the exact clearance for your model with us before buying tyres, since it varies by generation.

Do Pinarello frames use proprietary cockpit parts?

Yes, and this is the main thing to understand before buying a frameset. Pinarello uses its TiCR integrated routing system with Most-branded bars, stems and headset bearings, so a generic stem and handlebar will not fit. Budget for the cockpit as part of the build rather than assuming you can reuse parts from an older bike.

Is a Pinarello serviceable in India?

Yes for everything that wears, because the groupsets, wheels and consumables are standard Shimano and standard sizes. The parts that are Pinarello-specific are the headset bearings, seat clamp, seatpost and cockpit, and we stock those for current models. Internal cable routing does make a full rebuild slower than on a conventional frame, so budget more workshop time for a full service.

Come and see them

The full range is at Pinarello. At these prices nobody should buy from a photograph, so come to our Kondapur store, get measured and sit on one. If you are outside Hyderabad, ask TBA Guide with your height, inseam and what you ride now, and we will tell you which size and which model makes sense.
