Controltech Cougar FL4 Alloy Handlebar is an aero-oriented road drop bar for riders who want the shaping and cockpit features of the Cougar platform without moving to carbon. It uses AL6061-T6 aluminium and is intended for road racing and sportive riding. Compared with the Cougar FL4 Alloy Ergo, the RA-527 adds an aero-shaped top section while retaining alloy construction. Compared with the dearer Cougar FL4 Carbon, it provides a similar performance-focused concept using aluminium instead of carbon, making it the more practical option for riders prioritising durability and value over minimum mass.
Aero Road Shaping. Controltech combines an aero top profile with triangular drops designed to provide a broader, more tactile hand contact. The oversized centre section creates a stable platform during harder efforts, while the outward flare opens the lower hand position slightly for additional control. This layout suits riders who want a performance-oriented cockpit while retaining a conventional separate handlebar and stem.
Check Cockpit Compatibility. The handlebar uses a conventional road stem interface and supports Shimano Di2 EW-RS910 junction-box integration. Internal cable routing is also provided for a cleaner cockpit installation. Riders replacing another handlebar should confirm stem clamp, brake-shift lever and electronic-routing compatibility before fitting, particularly when moving components from a differently shaped road bar.
