Absolute Black Graphenwax Hot Melt Wax is a solid chain lubricant developed for cyclists who prefer immersion waxing over conventional drip-on lubricants. It is particularly suitable for riders who want a cleaner drivetrain, quieter chain operation and reduced lubricant build-up around the cassette and chainrings. Unlike ordinary paraffin wax, which can become brittle after cooling, Graphenwax uses a modified wax formulation that remains relatively pliable. This makes it easier to restore chain flexibility after treatment and reduces the amount of loose wax deposited around the drivetrain. It is intended for riders willing to invest time in proper chain preparation rather than those seeking a quick, on-bike lubrication method.

Controlled Chain Lubrication. During immersion, molten wax penetrates the chain's internal contact surfaces and forms a lubricating coating as it cools. This helps separate moving metal components and limits direct exposure to abrasive contaminants. The graphene-containing formulation is designed to maintain low friction while reducing the tendency of the coating to crumble during chain articulation. For riders covering long distances, the practical advantage is a drivetrain that requires less external cleaning than one treated with conventional oil-based lubricants.

Maintenance Requirements. Graphenwax requires a thoroughly degreased and completely dry chain before its first application. Subsequent treatments can be performed without repeating the initial solvent-cleaning process, provided the chain is adequately cleaned and dried. Wet weather and abrasive off-road conditions reduce the effective lubrication interval, making more frequent maintenance necessary. This is particularly relevant during Indian monsoons, when repeated water exposure can shorten the life of a wax coating. Absolute Black Graphenlube may also be used between waxing sessions for additional lubrication without completely stripping the existing treatment.

Notes & Warnings

Use only an electric slow cooker to melt Graphenwax. Do not use a stove, oven or microwave.
Never heat the wax above 100°C or expose it to an open flame.
Wear suitable protective gloves and safety glasses when handling molten wax.

How to use

Initial Chain Preparation

Remove the chain from the bicycle. A new chain must also be cleaned thoroughly to remove factory grease.
Immerse the chain completely in white spirit or mineral turpentine for 20-60 min.
Agitate the chain in the solvent for approximately 2 min to dislodge remaining grease and contaminants.
Remove the chain and allow it to dry completely for 10-12 hrs. An optional rinse with 98% alcohol can help remove residual solvent contamination.
Ensure the chain is completely dry before proceeding with waxing.

Wax Application

Place Graphenwax into an electric slow cooker and heat it until completely melted.
Bring the molten wax to approximately 90-100°C. Do not exceed 100°C.
Suspend the clean chain using a suitable metal wire or hanger and immerse it fully in the molten wax.
Leave the chain immersed for at least 10-15 min, allowing it to reach the wax temperature and ensuring the internal components are thoroughly heated.
Gently move the chain up, down and sideways for approximately 3-5 min. Flex the links during agitation to help the molten wax penetrate the rollers, pins and internal contact surfaces.
Remove the chain and suspend it above the cooker so excess wax can drip back into the container.
Carefully wipe excess wax from the outer chain plates while the coating remains warm.
Allow the chain to cool completely to room temperature for at least 40 min.
Once fully cooled, gently flex the chain along its length to restore free movement of the links.
Reinstall the chain and check that every link articulates freely before riding.

Re-Waxing and Maintenance

Re-wax when the chain begins sounding dry or after approximately 450km of dry road riding, depending on riding conditions.
For a dirty chain, rinse with hot water to remove loose dirt and old wax contamination. Allow it to dry completely before immersion.
Repeat the wax immersion and cooling procedure. The original solvent-degreasing process is not normally necessary for subsequent treatments.
Re-wax after wet rides, particularly following prolonged rain or muddy conditions.
Absolute Black Graphenlube may be used between hot-wax applications when additional lubrication is required.
