Miche positions the R81 specifically around Ultegra R8100 compatibility, while the R71 and R92 families target Shimano 105 R7100 and Dura-Ace R9200 cranksets respectively. That makes crankset matching the key reason to choose this version rather than treating Miche's 12-speed road chainrings as interchangeable.

12-Speed Specific. As an inner chainring, the UTG R81 is designed to operate as part of the Shimano Ultegra R8100 road drivetrain architecture rather than being selected simply because another chainring shares a similar mounting arrangement. For a rider replacing a worn inner ring or changing gearing within Miche's supported options, staying with the specified crankset compatibility helps avoid mixing components intended for different Shimano crank families.

Match the System. Confirm that the crankset is Shimano Ultegra FC-R8100 before ordering. Miche lists this R81 chainring for that crankset family, so compatibility should not be assumed for Shimano 105, Dura-Ace or older Ultegra cranksets simply because they are road systems. It is also an inner chainring, so riders replacing an outer ring need the corresponding UTG R81 outer model instead. Correct identification of the existing crankset and chainring position should therefore come before choosing the replacement.
